Iceland Becomes First Country To Eliminate Pay Gap

This week Iceland became the first country in the world to close the gender pay gap amongst gender, sexuality or ethnicity.

They are now making major effort to close the pay gap by 2022. Companies with 25 or more employees need to get certification to prove that they offer equal pay for work of equal value.

The bill was signed in 2017 on International Women’s Day. Equality and Social Affairs Minister Thorsteinn Viglundsson said, "We need to make sure that men and women enjoy equal opportunity in the workplace. It is our responsibility to take every measure to achieve that."
