Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackles Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were both arrested late Thursday (May 16) night in the latest of a tumultuous offseason for the defending Super Bowl champions.
Morris and Godrick, both 23, were given misdemeanors for possession and arrested at 11:44 p.m., booked at around 1:35 a.m. and released Friday (May 17) afternoon after posting a $2,500 bond, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Department via the New York Post. Both players pleaded not guilty on Friday and will appear at a court date scheduled for May 23.
Chiefs vice president of football operations Brad Gee confirmed that the franchise is aware of Morris and Gordick's arrests. Morris was selected by Kansas City at No. 92 overall in the third-round of the 2023 NFL Draft and made four starts in 14 total regular season appearances, as well as two appearances during the playoffs.
Godrick, a native of Nigeria, joined the franchise through the NFL's International Player Pathway. The two Chiefs players' arrests came days after kicker Harrison Butker stirred controversy for his comments taking aim at working women, the LGBTQ+ community and abortion rights during a graduation ceremony at Benedictine College last weekend and months after wide receiver Rashee Rice, who is currently under investigation for a separate alleged assault incident, was arrested in relation to a six-vehicle crash that took place in Dallas.
