Write Girl With Keren Taylor

Join Kari Steele as she talks to Keren Taylor the Executive Director of Write Girl.

Background:

WriteGirl is a Los Angeles-based creative writing and mentoring organization that spotlights the power of a girl and her pen. At WriteGirl, we match girls with women writers who mentor them in creative writing. WriteGirl is a thriving community with 200 volunteer women writers serving more than 500 girls annually. Ever year, we produce dozens of workshops, panel discussions and special events to help girls get creative, get through high school and get to coollege!

Through one-on-one mentoring and monthly creative writing workshops, girls are given techniques, insights and hot topics for great writing in all genres from professional women writers.

Many of our teens attend schools with over 3,000 students. The counselor to student ratio in Los Angeles is one of the worst in the country.

Many girls face tremendous challenges including abuse, neglect, depression and much more!

Last year, one of our teens who had been incarcerated just six months ago, was accepted to two colleges.

Keren Taylor and WriteGirl's unique programming have received numerous awards and commendations for community serivce.

Executive Director Keren Taylor founded WriteGirl in 2001 to give teen girls a way to be heard.

Over the past 17 years, she has overseen WriteGirl's expansion into a thriving community of writers that help hundreds of girls annually.

Join Kari Steele this Sunday, August 12th as she discusses how the skills of professional women writers helps teen girls. She'll share a few success stories and how writing specifically prepares girls for college and their careers.
