We're also keeping you up to the minute on the 8,000-acre Woolsey Fire. It started in Simi Valley, CA and than the flames jumped the 101 freeway near Liberty Canyon Road and Virgenes. More than 75,000 homes and buildings along the Ventura-LA border are under mandatory evacuation orders. Sadly, we are seeing reports of several dozen homes already burning.
Now, a second fire is burning east of Camarillo, west of Simi Valley near Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks -- only miles from Wednesday's shooting. CalFire says that blaze is at 10,000 acres this morning. Ventura County residents can text for alerts to your phone - text VC ALERT to 313131.
Schools across Ventura County will be closed Friday due to the Hill & Woolsey fires. All activities and classes will be canceled at CSU Channel Islands & California Lutheran University due to the fire and poor air quality. All schools in these districts will be closed:
- Conejo Valley Unified School District
- Hueneme Elementary School District
- Las Virgenes Unified School District
- Mesa Union School District
- Oak Park Unified School District
- Oxnard Elementary School District
- Oxnard Union High School District
- Pleasant Valley School District
- Rio School District
- Simi Valley Unified School District
- Somis Union School District
The following Ventura County Charter Schools are also closed: ACE, Bridges, MATES, River Oaks, University Preparation & Vista Real.
