A local Colton woman finds a hidden treasure from a free couch she got on craigslist, $36,000 in cash was stashed in one of the cushions.

Vicky Umodu was the one who had found the cash, she said she considered keeping her find but she returned it to the family who gave her the couch.

"God has been kind to me and my children, they're all alive and well, I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?"

She got the couch because she was looking for furniture to fill her new home.

"I scrolled down and saw free items," said Umodu. "So, I clicked on it, and the first thing I came up with was this family that wanted to give a sofa, and everything in their bedroom set...I said maybe it's a gimmick, so I called them."

The family she got the couches from was liquidating the home after a loved one had passed away, so it was a legit post.

Umodu took two sofas and a chair that would work great in her space.

"I just moved in, and I don't have anything in my house. I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in."

When she got home she was arranging and fixing the cushions when she felt something inside.

"I thought it was a heat pad," said Umodu, who immediately discounted that theory because there was no electrical cord.

She finally unzipped the cushion and found envelopes filled with thousand dollars in cash.

"I was just telling my son, come, come, come! I was screaming, this is money! I need to call the guy."

When she returned the money the family had no idea the family member had that much money hidden in the couch. They said they found a couple hundred dollars but nothing of that amount.

The family thanked Umodu for returning the money by offering to buy her a new refrigerator and they also gave her $2,200 as a cash reward.
"I was not expecting a dime from him, I was not."
