TikTok is the application where trends are born and there is a new one that is trending in the popular platform. Newlyweds Jessica and Dom took a trip to celebrate their wedding anniversary and went viral.
The couple thought of a way to still have a getaway while beating the peak summer travel prices. Instead of booking a flight or hotel they decided to rent a U-Haul for $19.95 and took it to a local drive in to tailgate.
Jessica took it to social media of the couples unique cheap date night, which has over 1.4 million views and likes on tiktok.
“My husband and I are always looking for unique, out-of-the box date ideas,” Johnston, from the western New York town of Dunkirk told The Post. “So, we thought renting a U-Haul, grabbing some snacks and catching a double movie marathon at a drive-in theater would be a really fun way to spend our first wedding anniversary.”
This inspired others to do the same thing and rent U-Haul and use it for date night.
Another couple rented a box truck and used it to celebrate their anniversary. The couple put a mattress in the back of it and grabbed dinner from Chilis and enjoyed their meal in the restaurant parking lot.
No comment has been made from U-Haul but many others are trying this trend.
Another coulple rented a cargo bed added an inflatable mattress, pillows and blankets then took it to their local drive in. All in all with gas and snacks plus the rental they spend under $80 for a memorable outing which is priceless.
“It was much cheaper to rent the U-Haul than actually buying a $18,000 truck,” she laughed. “And even renting a truck [from a typical car rental company] would have cost at least $100 for the day. This was 100% worth it.”
The U-Haul date is a hit amongst the young adults. Some of the benefits aside from it being affordable their isn't age restrictions like when someone tries to rent a car. Unlike renting a car the driver just need to have a government issued ID and they can rent from U-Haul. Some have even taken it to music festivals and used it to camp. This trend is going to keep growing. Where would you take your rental?
