LA Students Pay It Forward And Surprise Teacher With A Gift

High School students of Yula high payed it forward and surprised their math teacher with a car.

Julio Castro would commute to work using public transportation where it would sometimes take him two hours to get to and from work. He Lives in Santa Clarita and teaches at a Jewish private school located in Los Angeles.

"It is roughly two hours. It depends, if I miss my bus, I wait another half hour or an hour," said Castro.

some of the students took the summer to help raise money to buy him a car. they were able to fundraise $30,000 with donations and from people and different organizations and non profits.

"He made sure I understood all of the material by sitting down with me during his lunch breaks and sacrificing his time after school where he could be getting to the bus stop going back home," said Joshua Gerendash, a senior at the school.

Mr. Castro was gifted a 2019 Mazda CX-3

"I feel surprised. I feel special. So thank you to my students. They are like my kids as well," said Castro.

With this car Castro will be able to spend more quality time with his kids and family.

"Now that I have a car, I get to drop off my kids every morning. And then coming here with time to spare, I can use it on my lesson plans. Then on my way back, traffic is still bad, but I'll be able to make it for dinner," he said.

As if the car wasn't a big enough surprise they also gifted Castro with a year supply of insurance and gas.
