Here's a #FeelGood story making headlines! Earlier this week, the city of Los Angeles hosted the LA Marathon and people turned out in droves to run or to support their loved ones taking on the 26.2 mile trek across the Southland. One of those marathoners was Leobardo Dorado, a 15 year-old runner who had already completed 26 miles on his own before collapsing.
LAPD Sergeant Jay Balgemino was working near the end of the route when he noticed that Dorado had collapsed. Medics were called onto the scene to help him back up and Dorado only had one thought after regaining his bearings, "Did I finish?" Balgemino had told Dorado that he was close and that he could help him finish. Dorado inspired his own sister and Balgemino by prompting them both, "I want to finish".
Balgemino and Dorado's sister helped him across the finish line with loved ones and marathon attendees cheering him on with full support. Rosio Berumen, Dorado's mother, shared some words, as Dorado was shy and declined an interview. Berumen says, "We are very proud of Leobardo Dorado. It’s his second marathon, and we are very appreciative of the people that helped him"
