Celebrating 40 Years of 'Purple Rain' With Events and Tributes to Prince

Rewind to June 25, 1984, when Princeโ€™s sixth album showered the world with unforgettable hits like "Letโ€™s Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry," and, of course, the legendary "Purple Rain." This musical masterpiece not only topped the Billboard 200 for 24 weeks but also solidified Prince as an icon. The album inspired the movie, "Purple Rain," which grossed $70-million dollars, with a budget of only $7-million dollars. The movie was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2019 for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance. Most of "Purple Rain" was filmed in Minneapolis, however, several classic shots were done right here in Los Angeles!
