ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) — A Pasadena firefighter who lost his home while fighting the Eaton Fire made an incredible find on Tuesday while searching through the debris of his Altadena residence. He discovered his wedding ring!
In a newly released video, Chien Yu can be seen smiling with happiness as he holds the ring.
Yu, a fire engineer, explained that he began fighting the fire immediately after evacuating his home with his wife and two children.
He devoted himself to protecting his community but unfortunately lost his own house in the blaze
"We worked all night, worked really hard. We tried," said Yu as he held back tears, describing how hard he and his crew tried to save homes in Altadena from the wind-fueled fire.
Yu’s family is doing well, and they are focusing on their blessings and looking forward to a hopeful future.
"We have a fighting spirit in us and we have hope and faith that it will be okay and we will rebuild Altadena," said Yu's wife, Kim.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist the Yu family in their recovery.
