A quinceañera in Mexico began with only a few people showing up, leaving the birthday girl devastated until it completely turned around. Isela Anahi Santiago Morales was preparing for the traditional coming-of-age celebration for weeks. Quinceañeras are filled with culture across Mexico and Latin America as a symbolic and big celebration. Her parents are both local garbage collectors and were trying to throw her the best 15th birthday party they afford, but after sending out invitations and preparing food, only some people showed up. Her dad didn't want the food to go to waste so he posted on Facebook offering enough for 40 people.
A local photographer offered a free photoshoot along with a DJ and music with Jerónimo Rosales organizing the new party. Word got out and spread quickly as many donations pilled in from local businesses as well as from the community. The municipal government even offered the town's stadium to host about 2,000 people attending. Instead of gifts, Isela asked for people to donate toys to children, but her local government decided to surprise her with a 90-square-meter plot of land in Axtla. What started as a disappointing turnout, transformed into a massive and unforgettable quinceañera.
