Every once in a while, a story comes along that warms your heart from the inside out, like a sweet swirl of something magical. This season at Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort, that story belongs to Chef Charles Akau IV of Mila’s Kitchen Hawai‘i.
Born and raised on Kaua‘i and later growing up on the Big Island, Chef Charles is a proud kānaka (Native Hawaiian) and a Michelin-trained chef whose flavors carry the heart, soul and aloha of his ancestors. He currently lives in Chino Hills, California, although his cooking remains rooted in Hawai‘i.
What began as a dream, just a wish on a star, has now become a real-life Disney moment!
This November, Chef Charles brought authentic island heritage to Disney California Adventure. His dessert launch party was sponsored by Jason Momoa, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and King’s Hawaiian, who supported and celebrated the debut of his new dessert line at the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion at the Disneyland Hotel. With that lineup behind him, it feels as if the kūpuna are smiling.
And now his dream is your next delicious stop.
Right across from the The Little Mermaid – Ariel's Undersea Adventure attraction, Mila’s Kitchen Hawai‘i cart is serving up pure joy with their Ube, Mango, and Pandan Island Swirls and a trio of holiday puddings, treats so good you might think they were sprinkled with pixie dust. They are vibrant, comforting and crafted with heart.
For guests who appreciate cultural food stories, the menu also features a modern take on Pani Popo, the beloved Samoan coconut bread dessert. It is one of the first times this Polynesian classic, in any form, has appeared at Disney California Adventure.
As you wander through the Disney Festival of Holidays now through Jan 7, 2026, remember this: supporting this cart matters.
Follow @milaskitchenhawaii, stop by the cart, grab an Island Swirl, and celebrate a small, kānaka-owned business bringing real aloha to one of the most magical places on Earth.
Mahalo for uplifting culture, community and a dream come true! 💛🌈✨
