Why Does Daylight Saving Time Exist?

On Sunday at 2am it's time to push our clocks one hour forward. I'm sure you're wondering... why do we do this every year?

Well, daylight saving time began during WWI as a trick to conserve energy. If we shift the time forward, we get sunlight later into the evening. That means less time that we need the lights on in our homes.

There have been several studies to find our how much energy we actually save.

If you think about it, we might not be conserving that much energy since more daylight means more AC use, heating use, and in general we're up longer using electricity.

Will we ever get rid of the changing clocks? It's always been up for debate. Changing the way we handle time would take an act of Congress. Do you think we should get rid of daylight saving time?
