Kyara, the last orca whale born in captivity at SeaWorld, passed away yesterday from an infection at the company's San Antonio park.
Last year SeaWorld announced they were putting an end to their breeding program, however, Kyara's mother became pregnant before the decision was made. Kyara's mother was the same whale that killed an Orlando SeaWorld trainer back in 2010 during a performance; she passed away earlier this year.
There are now 22 orcas left at SeaWorld parks where they will remain. SeaWorld recently announced new "natural orca encounters" will replace the theatrical shows.
