Nanea Is American Girl's First Hawaiian Doll

Nanea Mitchell is the new and first Hawaiian American Girl, and is based on a real person!

The real nine-year-old Nanea shares her story in, Growing Up with Aloha and shares her story of growing up in Oahu before and after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

Nanea talks about helping her community by doing good deeds after the attacks. She represents as a great role model for kids and the lessons still apply in today’s world.

“We hope Nanea’s powerful story of resilience, responsibility to others and contributing for the common good - or kokua, as it’s known in Hawaii - will resonate with girls,” says Katy Dickson, president of American Girl, “And show them they have the power within to face the obstacles that come their way.”
