5 Times P!nk Was The Epitome of Girl Power

In honor of P!nk’s 38th birthday, we commemorate her by sharing five moments in which she defied gender norms, redefined beauty, and has been an overall inspiration to people everywhere.

1) She proposed to her husband! In 2005, while assisting in the Pro 250 Class finals in Mammoth, CA, P!nk rejected traditional engagement rules and proposed to motocross driver, Carey Hart. The two married six months later and although they separated in 2008, they reconciled in 2009 stating, “We're rebuilding. Sometimes you have to take a couple of steps backwards to move forward." They now have two children together, Willow (7) and Jameson (1).

2) She named her daughter after strength and stability. On June 2, 2011 P!nk gave birth to her first child, Willow Sage Hart. She named her daughter after a willow tree, “I grew up near one. It is the most flexible tree and nothing can break it- no wind, no elements. It can bend and withstand anything. I love that sentiment and I want that for her."

3) She’s a working mom. While working on her new album, “Beautiful Trauma,” and rehearsing for her tour, P!nk turned to Instagram to share this photo of her breast pumping with the caption, “And now this #pumpupthejams #mombreak” Showing her follows that she’s a mom above all else.

4) She continues to defy societal beauty standards by stating beauty isn’t a physical aspect, but is in fact surrounding yourself with what makes you the happiest. “Feeling beautiful to me is when I feel good in my leather pants and my husband grabs my ass. Or when I'm sitting on a mat and my daughter runs to me with complete joy. Beautiful has never been my goal. Joy is my goal--to feel healthy and strong and powerful and useful and engaged and intelligent and in love. It's about joy.”

5) Let us not forget her acceptance speech at the 2017 VMA’s where she shared a story about her daughter not thinking she was beautiful. P!nk looked at herself and told her daughter that she doesn’t change her appearance just because people don’t agree with it. “So, baby girl, we don’t change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty...and you, my darling girl, are beautiful.”
