As Thanksgiving approaches we reflect on all the blessings we have in our lives- but its equally important to recognize the individuals who aren't as fortunate. Here are some organizations and events that you can volunteer/participate in to give back this Thanksgiving holiday.
Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) if hosting their 46th Annual Dinner in the Park, an event that provides free meals to homeless men, women, children, seniors, very low-income families. The organization has provided thousands of meals to those in need. While their volunteer positions are full, you can still donate $10 to the event, or donate items USHS needs for their Dinner in the Park, such as aluminum steam pans, pot holders, canned green beans etc.
The Turkey Trot Los Angeles is celebrating their fifth annual Thanksgiving run in Downtown LA. The Turkey Trot is available to people of all ages, and participates can chose to run (or walk) their 5K, 10K, or one mile Widdle Wobble. All proceeds go towards The Midnight Mission, a private organization located in Downtown LA offers a bridge to self-sufficiency for people experiencing homelessness through recovery services, counseling, education, training, workforce development and continued care services

Adopt a cat or dog! Recent studies have shown that there is an increase in animal abandonment around the Holidays, so bring a friend home! The Best Friends Adoption Center in Los Angeles has more than 400 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies waiting to be adopted or fostered!
Volunteer at a Retirement Home. 40% of elders in retirement homes suffer from depression and social isolation, and that's no way to spend the holidays. Instead go visit your local retirement home, bring your pet, or sign up to teach a class there. This guide helps you find retirements homes near you, and what type of volunteer work is needed; like putting together a "Senior" Prom.
