Coast Of California Bidding To Become The 51st State

The "New California" movement aims to separate from the coastal part of California in a bid to become the 51st state.

The state of "New California" would be made up of most of the state's rural counties, leaving the urban coastal areas to remain as the original Golden State.

Bidding for the "New California" would stem from Article 4, Section 3, of the U.S. Constitution which provides an avenue for new states to form - similar to how West Virginia was formed.

This isn't the first time California has attempted in splitting into two states; the most recent was back in 2014, Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper proposed the Golden State be split up into six separate states.
