SoCalGas With Melissa Bailey

SoCalGas is the nation’s largest distributor of natural gas. They deliver safe and reliable service to over 21 million customers in Central and Southern California.

SoCalGas knows that their customers have a lot on their plate. That is why they have different customer assistance programs that may be able to help their customers that need it most. With the California Alternate Rates for Energy Program, also known as CARE, eligible customers could save 20% on their natural gas bill each month.

More than 1.5 million customers are already taking advantage of this assistance program. They want to invite more customers that may benefit from the program to learn more. The monthly discount really makes a difference in the households that meet the program requirements.  They also offer the Energy Savings Assistance Program to income-qualified renters and homeowners.

This program offers no-cost, energy-saving home improvements including attic insulation, low-flow shower heads, faucet aerators, door weatherstripping, caulking, and minor home repairs to exterior doors and windows. Customers that benefit from this program not only get no-cost home improvements, they also save money and energy every month by making their homes more energy-efficient.

If you are looking to save during the colder months, here's how cold weather impacts home heating costs. Households tend to use more natural gas for home hearing and for water heating. It's possible to use three to seven times more natural gas than summer months.

Also on the website you will be able to find a variety of saving tips such as lowering your thermostat and you can save up to 10 percent of heating costs by lowering your furnace thermostat by 3-5 degrees if heath permits.

Some important safety tips to remember are to always have your natural gas appliances inspected yearly by a qualified professional or SoCalGas.

You should never store anything near a natural gas appliance that might interfere with normal appliance airflow and never store highly flammable products in the same room as any natural gas or heat-producing appliances.
