Radiohead Returns to Canada For the First Time Since Fatal Stage Collapse

It's been six years since a tragic accident cost Scott Johnson his life.

During a North American tour stop at Toronto, Canada's Downsview Park in 2012, Radiohead's drum technician, Johnson, was killed when the stage collapsed unexpectedly.

Now, the indie rock pioneers are returning to the city for the first time since the incident with sold out shows at Air Canada Centre on July 19th and 20th.

Though the band is coming back, they're not happy with the lack of information given regarding what caused the tragic stage collapse.

"There have been no real answers...without the answers, we can't ensure that an accident like this can't happen again," drummer Phillip Selway said in a recent interview with BBC Newsnight, after discussing how "frustrating" it is that the court case filed after the incident had broken down due to a technicality. Thirteen charges had been brought against the concert's promotor, the staging company, and the engineer.

Prosecutor David McCaskill blamed the accident on a miscalculation of the roof's weight, but because of the halted legal action, no progress has been made on the case since 2017.

The two Toronto dates are part of a short North American tour Radiohead embarked on earlier this month.
