MLB Legend Gets New Heart From 29-Year Old Football Player Who He Inspired

Usually when it comes to organ transplants you don't know who the donor is, but the American Heart Association Revealed the story of how the families of MLB legend Rod Carew and former NFL Player Konrad Reuland realized the circumstances of the amazing gift Carew recieved, a new heart.

20 years ago, Rod meet then sixth grade Konrad, he told his mother that day " Mom, I met Rod Carew today!" From then on Konrad was inspired to by Rod's achievements to become a sports hero as well.

Fast forward to 2015, Rod had a nasty heart attack while at a golf course. Doctors put in a mechanical heart device but soon he was put on the heart transplant list.

The next month, news began to spread of Konrad's unfortunate death. The tight end was running on a tread mill when he got a terrible headache, soon there after he had brain surgery and never woke up, he was only 29 years old. Doctors took his kidneys, liver, and heart.

The same heart that Rod Carew at 71 years old ended up receiving, ultimately saving and prolonging his life.
