ABOUT:
· With school almost out for the summer, many children and their families are at risk of experiencing food insecurity, lacking the basic nutrients necessary to live active, healthy lives. Simultaneously, food agencies typically experience the greatest need to serve children who are out of school during the summer months, leading to low inventories across the country.
· In order to combat food insecurity, on June 26th, Grocery Outlet will launch its 9th Annual Independence from Hunger (IFH) national food drive campaign.
· The campaign collects food and cash donations in-store at Grocery Outlet’s 300+ stores through the end of July that will be distributed directly to local food agencies across the country.
· Online donations support the Bay Area community through Grocery Outlet’s partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
· In 2017, Grocery Outlet more than doubled their donations from the previous year, raising over $1 million. Last year, together with your help, we raised $1.7 million. This year our goal is to raise $2 million dollars worth of cash & food for our community food agencies.
The most recent USDA data reports that 40 million people live in food insecure households, including 12.5 million children.
