The title “Hero” describes a Vista postwoman who found two missing girls within weeks this past April. She was honored by the National Association of Letter Carriers for her deeds.
Chyanne Thomas, a letter carrier in Vista, CA, has been with the USPS for just over a year. But what a year!
This past April Abbey Motzer, a 15-year-old girl with autism went missing. Abbey’s parents said she wandered away from the house without shoes. A team of 80 volunteers turned out to look for her but it was Chyanne that spotted her based on a flyer that had been handed out more than 24 hours earlier.
Then a couple of weeks later she spotted a 3-year-old girl wandering around on her own. At first, she thought her parents must have been nearby but when no one showed up after 15 minutes, she called police. Eventually the child’s mother was found and the two were reunited.
Watch this interview as she shares important techniques that she learned working with people with developmental disabilities.
Our postal carriers are such an important part of our community and we appreciate their diligence.
Congratulations and thank you Chyanne!
