Kate Middleton Had A Major Regret About Her Engagement To Prince William

Kate Middleton and Prince William will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary this year. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot back in April of 2011 in a much-watched ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

In Katie Nicholl's book, Kate: The Future Queen, the royal reporter reveals that prior to her wedding, Kate experienced one major regret about her engagement to Prince William was handled. After William popped the question while vacationing with Kate at Kenya's Lake Rutundu, the couple decided to keep their engagement a secret—even from their closest friends and family—until publicly announcing the news a few weeks later.

Originally, William and Kate planned to announce the happy news on November 3, 2010. Unfortunately, their plans were derailed when Kate's last living grandparent, her grandpa Peter, passed away on November 2. William and Kate decided to postpone the announcement while Kate and her family mourned their loss. Following her grandpa's passing, Kate felt reget over not sharing the news of her engagement sooner.

"Kate was deeply saddened not to have had the chance to tell her grandfather that she was engaged to William," Nicholl explained in her book. "She knew he would have been delighted for her."

Ultimately, Kate and William waited until November 16 to share their engagement with the world. They only told their friends and family just hours before the news went public.
