Meghan Markle Surprises Young Poets During Black History Month

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave a few students the surprise of a lifetime when they dropped in on a youth poetry class via Zoom. In honor of Black History Month, the couple connected with the youth arts organization, Get Lit, to offer a few words of encouragement to the young poets.

"We’ve saved the best for last! Guess who surprised our poetry class this weekend? It was the best weekend ever! Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were magic and kind and interested in poetry," the organization wrote on Instagram.

"The Duchess even shared some of her favorite poetry lines. We are so grateful for their visit in honor of Black History Month. It goes down as [the] most epic experience in Get Lit history!"

The organization said the appearance came as a surprise to them as well. Not long ago, Markle and her husband reached out the organization in an effort to help out.

“Our Poets’ mouths hit the floor,” Get Lit Founder Diane Luby Lane told the HuffPost.

“After they left, one of the poets started crying and said ‘I need someone to explain what just happened right now.’”

The surprise appearance left the entire class stunned and feeling a little bit more confident. One student even had a suggestion about who their next guest should be.

“One student wrote in the chat, ‘Invite Beyonce next time because I’m confident now. Meghan knows my name,’” Lane said.

”It’s these small things, to know that you’re worthy of dropping in on that changes and saves lives.”
