Netflix has secured a deal with former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to produce series and movies for the streaming service. The couple is said to work on scripted and unscripted series as well as a possible docu-series, documentary films, and features under the multi-year deal.

When describing the deal Barack said, “One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience,” said Barack Obama. “That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”

Signing the Obama's is another huge move for Netflix as they develop their team of original content creators. Last year, Netflix Stole Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes from ABC Studios with a deal valued at more than $100 million. They've also signed Adam Sandler for a multi-movie deal and several other juggernauts in the Industry.

It is unknown how much the Obamas’ Netflix contract amounts to. They will be producing through their newly formed company Higher Ground Productions. For an idea of what the check is that the Obama's may be looking at, In March, Penguin Random House signed the couple to a joint book deal that pays them a reported $65 million for their respective memoirs. It is reported that the Obama's deal with Netflix will be in the comfortable 8 figures according to CBSN. This deal is huge!

“Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognized public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

I am confident that they will be some of the best storytellers we have yet to see in entertainment.  There's excitement in the air of Hollywood as we captively wait to see what awesome content the Obama's come up with. Cheers to a new slew of series to binge!
