How A Dishwasher And Baker Became The Top Disney Pastry Chefs


These two landed their Disney dream job! Who needs book smarts, when you have 'Disney Magic?'

Jorge Sotelo is the executive pastry chef at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa with the assistance of Nubia Renteria.

They've worked along side each other for 19 years creating the "Disney Magic" with dramatic and over-the-top desserts, cakes and pastries day after day.

With the immaculate creations these two put together with their team, you would think they've gone through years of culinary school. Except, both have little to no experience at all. 

Jorge Sotelo was a dishwasher at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine when he got his break! Someone called out sick, and he was asked to step in and help the pastry chef. The rest is history. 

He came across Nubia Renteria years later when he met her at a Disney job fair. He was really impressed with her and took her on. She was a natural and can make anything look amazing! 

This dynamic duo continues to live out their success in creating "Disney Magic" throughout the resort.
