Friday, March 13th was the last time I was in a theme park, and no theme parks in California have reopened for business with the exception of zoos and botanical gardens, and even these facilities’ outdoor venues are all that are available to the public - indoor, closed-off spaces are still unavailable.
That being said, Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort and Knott’s Marketplace outside of Knott’s Berry Farm have reopened to receive guests for masked, socially distanced shopping and outdoor ONLY dining.
On Friday, 24 July, Knott’s Berry Farm opened its gates for the Taste of Calico event in the Ghost Town portion of the park. This is a separately ticketed event. No rides, shows, or attractions are open at this time. This is strictly a masked & socially distanced food & beverage related event with a little bit of shopping available as well.
Cedar Fair, Knott’s parent company, has gone to great lengths to make sure the guest experience is safe, solid, and follows all protocols set out by local, state, and federal law.
Brian & I thoroughly enjoyed the event! We tried plenty of tasty vittles! Some were holdovers from the 2019 edition of the Boysenberry Festival and many were offerings that were to have been enjoyed earlier this year during the 2020 Boysenberry Festival (that was postponed due to COVID-19).
Some of the unique standouts? Boysenberry Sausage on a Hoagie Bun, Roasted Corn with Butter, Cotjia Cheese, and Cayenne Pepper, and Samosas with a Boysenberry Chutney. The desserts for sure as well! All Boysenberry related - “Anti Nothin’ Mini About It” Funnel Cake with Boysenberry Topping, Mrs. Knott’s Biscuit Bites with Boysenberry Butter Dipping Sauce, and a legit, Boysenberry Hand Scooped Ice Cream Cookiewich!
Taste of Calico is nearly sold out - by the time you read this it likely will be all together, but fret not! Taste of Knott’s is coming! Friday, Saturday, & Sunday - 21 August through 13 September. We will be there to check it out for you as well! With Taste of Knott’s we’ll be able to enjoy more of the park - Fiesta Village and the Boardwalk will be open along with Ghost Town - and more uniquely Knott’s related goodies to eat and drink! Can’t wait!
