MOCA Makes Admission Free After Receiving $10-Million Gift

MOCA (The Museum of Contemporary Art), announced this weekend that they are making general admission free!

This was made possible thanks to a $10-million gift from the MOCA board of trustees president, Carolyn Powers.

Powers announced the news during the museum's annual benefit dinner on Saturday night. It was held in the MOCA’s Geffen Contemporary satellite space in Little Tokyo. They were also celebrating a 40th birthday party for the museum with about 700 guests, 300 of them being artists. Everyone jumped to their feet with excitement and applause.

Part of MOCA director, Klaus Biesenbach’s, “civic-minded” vision is to remove financial barriers and make the museum more accessible to everyone. He said “We are not aiming at having more visitors or larger attendance, but we’re aiming at being more accessible, at having open doors. As a civic institution, we should be like a library, where you can just walk in.”

We really love this! So amazing.
