Pittsburgh Honors Beloved "Singing Doctor" For His Amazing Work

WATCH: I don't know if you remember, but this doctor when viral about 6 years. For what you may ask? Because every time he delivered a baby in the delivery room, he sang happy birthday to the newborn! It's such a sweet gesture, and everyone got in on it.

Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja of The University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has delivered so many babies in his 40 years of practice, and did retire back in 2016. But he has been brought back into the news because now the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is recognizing him with his own day in the city!

May 16th in Pittsburgh is known as "Jaja Day," a special day to commemorate this "singing doctor" It is so interesting how he came to start singing to his babies. According to a piece on him from PEOPLE.COM, an older gynecologist he worked with loved to sing, and "passed the baton" onto Andrew-Jaja because of his beautiful voice.

Imagine the joy of these mothers and fathers as their baby comes into the world, welcomed with a beautiful song from the doctor. And not only does the doctor sing Happy Birthday, he is known to also sing Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World!"

For Good Morning America, he did "come out of retirement" to sing to a newborn baby on July 16th of this year. He didn't actually deliver the baby, but he did use his beautiful voice to welcome him into the world. You can read all about the magical way the mom felt in the link above from People.com.
