Summer is sadly coming a close and the only real way to cope with this is by sipping tropical drinks with those cute little umbrellas in them.
Thankfully, Applebee's is here to save the day and wants to help you accomplish just that! The chain restaurant recently announced that their August Neighborhood Drink of the Month is $1 Mai Tai's. I don't think they could have picked a more perfect drink to close out summer with.
If you're not familiar with how this works, the chain introduces a new, $1 alcoholic drink, on the first of the month. In the past they've had a Malibu Dollarmama, Vodka Raspberry Lemonade, and the first original that started it all, the Dollarita.
They have all sounded delicious, but I think this Mai Tai might just be the champion! It consists of rum, pineapple, passion fruit, orange, black cherry, and lime all combined together. The drink comes in a 10-ounce mug and it is also topped with a cocktail umbrella! Those are what make the drinks, to be honest.
Before the reveal of August's drink, Applebee's teased us and hinted at the drinks launch with an Instagram post. The photo had a dotted outline of the drink and it was captioned "Any guesses what's shaped like this and tastes like island life?"
Fans of the Neighborhood Drink of the Month quickly weighed in with their guesses. Some of them consisted of a Long Island Iced Tea or Piña Colada, but a few accurately predicted Mai Tai!
Vice President of beverage innovation, Patrick Kirk, stated that "Tiki cocktails are the hottest drinks of the season. Drinking our $1 Mai Tai is like getting whisked away to the South Seas without even having to leave the neighborhood."
That is a statement we agree with!
