Blind Engineer Builds SMART Cane With Google Maps, Bluetooth & Sensors

With today's technology, we have so many devices and gadgets that have been built to make our everyday lives easier and over all more convenient.

One company took technology to the next level, that I didn't even know existed, to hopefully make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

A visually impaired engineer, Kursat Ceylan, is the CEO and co-founder of a non-profit company called the Young Guru Academy (YGA). This is the company responsible for the amazing, next level invention of a smart cane!

The smart cane he created is known as WeWalk. The WeWalk cane has built-in speakers, voice assistance, Google Maps, a Bluetooth system, and high-end sensors that alert the user through vibrations when obstacles located above the chest are in close proximity.

Ceylan himself faces the daily challenges that being blind brings and created WeWalk in hoped of changing lives like his own.

On CNN, Ceylan shared “Unfortunately I cannot name a single city as a perfectly disabled-friendly city that is why we are trying to provide this independence for visually impaired people. In these days we are talking about flying cars, but these people have been using just a plain stick. As a blind person, when I am at the Metro station I don’t know which is my exit… I don’t know which bus is approaching… which stores are around me. That kind of information can be provided with the WeWalk.”

It's incredible to imagine all of lives that WeWalk will impact! What an amazing device.
