A man rescues a three year old who was hanging from a window is being called a hero after he saves her from the 8th floor. The little girl was left home alone and she used pillows and toys to climb on the ledge before she fell, and was hanging from the ledge with just her fingertips.
The child was left home alone, while mom stepped out. A crowd formed watching the horrific scene of the child holding on to dear life.
Sabit Shontakbaev, 37, was with a friend on the way to work when they noticed the crowd. The father of four felt the need to help and rushed into the building to the apartment below the child and made his way to the window.
Sabit said: ‘I did not have a safety harness so my friend held my legs.
‘At that moment I didn’t think about anything, I just wanted to help the child.’
He rescued her by reaching up and grabbing the girls legs, then pulling her down and passing her through the window.
He added: ‘I didn’t even see her parents.’
‘Afterwards, I went straight to work with my friend. Nobody knew that this would happen.
‘I just saved the child and left, and in the news and social networks they suddenly began to call me a hero.
‘I do not consider my actions heroic.
‘To me, everyone should lend a helping hand in such situations.’
Sabit is now a hero for the mission impossible style mission, that he was awarded a medal by the city officials.
Local media also reported that he is going to be gifted a three bedroom apartment and TV for the heroic act. He had been living alone and would send money home to his family. With this gift he is going to be able to bring his family to live with him in the city.
Emergency services were called to the scene on May 11 at 10.21am, after the received reports that a child was hanging from a window.
Kazakh’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said in a statement: ‘Subdivisions of the Department of Emergency Situations of the city of Nur-Sultan, consisting of 7 personnel and two vehicles, were promptly sent to the scene.
Emergency services were called after receiving the call that a child was hanging from a window.
‘By the time of arrival, it was established that a man had saved the child dangling from the window on the eighth floor.
‘No-one was with the girl, born in 2019 making her 3 years old.
‘Fortunately, our hero Shontakbaev Sabit, born in 1985, seeing the hanging, crying child, without hesitation and risking his own life, took emergency action and literally caught and saved the little girl’s life in a matter of seconds.’
This is now being used as a warning to parents to not leaved the kids unsupervised.
They added: ‘Dear parents, this was a happy occasion when the child was rescued safely, but there are many other incidents with a tragic outcome.
‘Never leave children unsupervised by adults!
‘Do not leave windows open if there is a small child at home, because you could be distracted for a second, and this could end your child’s life or disable them forever.’
