17 Year Old Pilot Tries For World Record With Hopes To Inspire Other Teens

17- year old is pilot who is trying to se the world record for youngest pilot to fly across the world.

Mack Rutherford is the young pilot from Belgium has already started his journey. The is adventure currently underway and he has already made his way across Eastern Europe. He even made a pit stop in So Cal.

Rutherford stopped at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana earlier this week, he stopped for some fuel for both him and his plane.

He is no stranger to flying, one can say he was born to fly. He comes from a family of aviators so this will be a big accomplishment once this major goal.

"I was in Japan and it's a huge leg toward the U.S. so I had to add extra fuel tanks just for that one stop and I did a 10 hour flight over to Attu Island which is completely uninhabited," Weatherford said. "Not a single person and I landed there safely and everything was fine."

Rutherford has been a pilot since the age of 15. He is also flying a plane that cane make it through all types of weather conditions. After leaving the OC he was making his way towards Cabo and is set to be done with his trip in the next few weeks. When he lands back in Bulgaria he will hold The Guinness world record for the youngest pilot to fly around the world.

"The point is not topping it it's just something I've really wanted to do so I do it. I'll see what the next challenge brings me. It might be more challenging, it might be less but as long as it's what I want to do, I'll be happy," Rutherford said.

He hopes his story will help him inspire other young pilots to reach for the stars.
