Man Turns His Childhood Home Into Spectacular Holiday Lights Decor

Steven Foster of Redwood City has been turning his childhood home on Topaz Street into a holiday wonderland ever since he was a young child.

This year he's continuing the tradition by adding tens of thousands of lights and raising money for charity at the same time.

Over the years, Foster said it’s grown quite a bit with more people turning their homes into beautiful light displays, almost wanting to outdo their neighbors.

“That was probably one of my inspirations when I was younger. We’d always pile in the van as kids and they’d always take us to Candy Cane Lane,” he said.

Every year for the past 15 years, Foster has spent almost a month meticulously planning and executing his famous light display for the day after Thanksgiving.

“I see lots and lots of families come through and they come watch the light show. And it’s really nice just to see their reactions,” Foster said.

Foster's display is set with on-demand snowflakes to make the display even more festive.

“It’s always so much fun, and we enjoy coming, playing in the snow and the light show. It’s pretty awesome that they do this,” said Chelsie Meyers of San Mateo.
“It’s beautiful, the display. We haven’t actually been here. So, we haven’t seen the progression, but I was in awe,” said Redwood City resident Katie Hughes.

Two years ago, Foster decided to inspire people to donate to the Peninsula Humane Society by displaying a QR code. He feels that his efforts would

give more meaning by finding a way to give back to charity. He's not sure how much money the charity has received from his Christmas holiday lights,

but he plans to keep them up until the first week of January.
