It's common to hear twins being born within minutes apart from their sibling, but for one Connecticut pair, those few minutes meant being born in different years.
Mykel and Aliyah Kiyomi Morris welcomed twins, a baby boy and baby girl minutes apart at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Seven Morris was born at 11:59 a.m. on Dec. 31, marking the hospital's last recorded birth of 2023, a news release from the health system said.
A few minutes later, at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1, his twin sister Souli Morris became the first baby born at the hospital in 2024.
The twins are healthy and weighed in at six pound and nine ounces.
"The family is doing great and getting some well-deserved rest," the hospital said in the news release.
It may seem rare, but it can happen when going into labor at the very end of the year, on December 31st with twins.
This is not the first time twins have been born in separate years. Two sets of twins made the news on two New Year's Days for the exact same feat. Annie Jo and Kali Scott were born on opposite side of the new year last year, while Alfredo Antonio and Aylin Yolanda Trujillo were born in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
