Community Forms Makeshift Rideshare Service For Blind Man

Bill Moczulewski, a store janitor, works the overnight shift and walks five miles in each direction to get to work under any weather. That's a total of two hours roundtrip.

"I don't call out," Moczulewski said. "I want to work."

A few years ago, Christy Conrad saw Moczulewski walking and offered him a ride. As she got to know him, she learned about his daunting daily commute and how he is also legally blind.

"He's going to go to work no matter what," Conrad said. "…I picked him up in nine degrees the other morning."

At first, Conrad drove him whenever she could, but since she couldn't always help him get to work, she started Mr. Bill's Village. It's a Facebook group that she hoped would help her find some volunteers to keep an eye out for Moczulewski when he's walking.

"And within days it exploded," one of the group's member told CBS News.
"Now it's like everyone is competing to give Mr. Bill a ride," said another.

People are so kind and will often drive down streets looking for Moczulewski.

"Just like, 'Where's Waldo,' but where's Mr. Bill…It's nice to see," Conrad said.

The Facebook group that Conrad started a few months ago has exploded to about 1,500 members which has helped Moczulewski get a ride to work or home almost every day.

"There's a lot of good people in this world, all over the place, you know," Moczulewski said.

Moczulewski was gifted a vehicle by Chris Puckett, a local car dealer. But since Moczulewski cannot drive, he handed the car keys to Conrad who blessed him with all those car rides.
