Local LA Meteorologist Rescues Injured Owl

Henry DiCarlo, the meteorologist from KTLA 5 Morning News, found an injured owl on the side of the road on his way to work on Thursday and rescued it.

DiCarlo was crossing the Gypsum Canyon Bridge to get to the 91 Freeway when he noticed something strange --- an owl was standing on the road.

“I thought something is not right about that owl. So, I turned around, and the owl could not fly,” Henry said.

He decided to pull over and contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. He remembered how his wife Lisa told him never to leave an animal on the side of the road, so he waited with the owl until a deputy arrived.

“I’m like, you know what? I could be late to work and get in trouble for one day, or I could be in trouble for the rest of my life if I leave that owl behind,” Henry joked during KTLA’s morning newscast.

Shortly after DiCarlo made the call, Deputy Guevara arrived and helped get the owl into a ventilated plastic container.

“Yeah, no problem. I hope you can make it to work,” Deputy Guevara said as Henry thanked her.

The owl was taken to the OC Animal Care to get treated.

“We are going to track the owl … Hopefully, it’s reintroduced back into the wild, but if we have to find it a forever home because that’s not possible, we’re going to do that,” Henry said.

He also suggested a couple of names for the owl such as “Gypsum,” as in Gypsum Canyon Bridge, or “Linda” because it was found in “Yorba Linda” and asked KTLA’s viewers to chime-in.

“I throw this out to our KTLA viewers,” Henry said.
