Donald, a 90-year-old veteran of the Air Force, visited a pawn shop in Manchester, New Hampshire, with the intention of selling some jewelry to help with his financial situation. His wife suffers from dementia, and they were facing increased rent from their landlord. However, his financial worries were significantly alleviated when Janelle Marie, an employee at the pawn shop, started a GoFundMe campaign on his behalf.
Janelle surprised Donald with an initial sum of $1,300, which deeply moved him. She explained that this was an early birthday gift from her and about 25 friends, as he would turn 91 on August 25th. The campaign, however, has grown substantially since then, with the last update showing over $375,000 raised. This unexpected support has ensured that Donald will no longer have to worry about paying rent.
