102-Year-Old British Woman Goes Skydiving for her Birthday

A British woman celebrates an incredible birthday by jumping out of a plane.

Speaking after her momentous jump, Ms Baillie said: "When the door opened, I thought, there is nothing more I can do or say. Just jump."

For Manette Baillie from Suffolk, her "mission has been accomplished."

Baillie undertook the challenge to raise money for three causes close to her heart - the East Anglian Air Ambulance, Motor Neurone Disease Association and Benhall Village Hall.

So far, she has managed to raise £9,000 of her £30,000 goal.

"Well I suppose I jumped, I remember my legs going out and it's a kind of blur. I shut my eyes."
"We seemed to travel at a very fast speed."

Baillie who recently turned 102 years young, was witnessed by family, friends and neighbors as she took on the challenge. They were proud of her and cheered her on.

"She's a complete rock, fearless, she does not dwell on complaining or tragedies," said close friend Humphrey Hawksley.
"I got quite tearful up there, it's amazing what she's doing," said veteran parachute jumper cameraman Nick Herridge.

There was some concern over the jump and how it might be cancelled due to the wind, but instead it was moved forward and Manette was unperturbed.

Before the jump, while pulling on her jumpsuit and practicing her landing the former Wren was relaxed and stoic, saying: "There's nothing to be nervous about. You've just got to keep going. You've just got to do it".
Only after her feet were back on the ground did she admit to being a little nervous: "When the door opened, my stomach did go."

Manette is known among friends for going all out to celebrate her milestones.

"She's an inspiration, what is she going to do for her 103rd birthday?!" said her great-niece Izzy Robinson.

Baillie has served in the Women's Royal Navy Service (WRENS) in Egypt during the Second World War and regularly seeks thrill and adventure.

She still drives regularly and even marked her 100th birthday by driving a Ferrari racing car at 130mph at Silverstone racecourse.

"I play an active part in the community and people often ask me what is the secret of old age. Of course, it is luck but I would say keep both physically and mentally active and socialise!" Ms Baillie previously said.
