San Diego Zoo Elephants React to Earthquake with a Circle

A 5.2 earthquake shook San Diego earlier and elephants from the zoo were prepared. The zoo caught on camera the animals forming a protective circle. The San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance posted a video of the park's African elephants quickly making a circle around the younger elephant to protect them during the earthquake shake. They call this an "alert circle". Elephants are known to make these alert circles as a defensive mechanism to protect the younger or most vulnerable herd member after sensing danger. Four minutes after the earthquake, the herd went back to normal but stayed close to one another. Check out the video of the elephants below!
