Mattel has just released "Robotic Engineer Barbie" the company hopes to create an initiative to promote new jobs for girls.
According to the Barbie website, "The STEM field continues to grow, but only 24% of those jobs are held by women. That’s why we’re encouraging girls to explore STEM through imaginative play and our partnership with Tynker, the award-winning computing platform."
For $13.99, young girls will not only be able to have the doll, but access six free online lessons, “Discover what it’s like to be a Robotics Engineer, a Musician, an Astronaut, a Farmer, a Beekeeper, and a Pastry Chef! Use programming to animate characters, compose music, tell stories, design games, and even create art," according to Tynker's website.
