Jack Whitehall Is Cast To Play The First Major Gay Disney Character!

Jack Whitehall has been casted for the upcoming Disney film "Jungle Cruise."

He posted on Instagram that he is honored to be part of the film, however he is getting a lot of backlash.

Jack is straight, but he will be playing the role of a gay man.

Many people are outraged by this because they believe the first major role of gay Disney character should be played by a gay man.

Actor Omar Sharif Jr asked Disney on Twitter: "Your first significant gay role will be played by a straight white man perpetuating stereotypes? Fail! This ship should sink."

However, gay Labour MP Wes Streeting defended Jack's casting.

He posted: "Shock as actor is asked to play someone different from themselves. Isn't that kind of the point? Wouldn't always casting gay actors in gay roles be condemned for typecasting?"

The film Jungle Cruise is "based on Disneyland's theme park ride, where a small riverboat takes a group of travellers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles, but with a supernatural element".

The Jungle Cruise film is due to hit cinemas theaters in October, 2019.
