A choir director at Lee High School named Tyler Henderson was in for a very special surprise from his students.
Currently, he is directing the Alabama school's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
Recently, his students found out that he is colorblind and they were determined to help him. They wanted him to see their performance as rich as possible.
The high school's thespian group decided to raise money to purchase EnChroma glasses. These allow color-blind people to see color.
The students also wanted to give their teacher his gift in a special way. They sang a song from the musical they've been working on and at the end held up a banner that said "You helped us see our colors. Now we're helping you see yours."
Tyler put on the glasses and was shocked that they actually work. He looked around at the colorful room filled with balloons and sat down and broke into tears. He said that "For about six or eight hours after I got the glasses, I had trouble putting them on without getting teared up. That's one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me."
EnChroma glasses are not cheap either. They can cost $300-$600, but you can't put a price on giving someone the gift of sight in a way they've never had before.
What a touching story to help us all remember we have so much to be thankful for!
