Due To California Heat Wave, These Mussels Cooked In Their Shells!

California Summer is in full effect!

You can just tell by looking outside that the temperatures in California are on the rise!

For the month of June, California residents have experienced a heat wave for June.

Due to this heat wave, it caused mussels at Bodega Head Bay in Northern California to actually cook inside their shells.

The temps at Bodega Bay reached 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to Jackie Sones, who is a research coordinator at Bodega Bay, she discovered that the heat wave roasted the shellfish.

The meat inside the shell was thoroughly cooked.

Sones also reported that other researchers told her about mussel deaths up and down 140 miles of the state's coastline.

This isn't the first time we've seen this issue either, it also occurred back in 2004.

Sadly, these events are becoming more frequent and much more severe.

Researches say that mussels are one of the canaries in the coal mine for climate change.

Not only do these warm temperatures cook the mussels inside their shells, but the they also can spread bacteria in the waters.

If you haven't heard of it before, the bacteria is called Vibrio Vulnificust.

It lives in salty warm water which can cause a flesh-eating disease that could possibly result in amputations or death.

Anyone can get this bacteria from being in water with an open wound or eating raw shellfish from the water.

Have you ever heard of this happening before?!
