As COVID-19 cases rise, LA County hospitals could possibly run out of available beds within the next two to three weeks according to county health officials.
According to Dr. Barbara Ferrer who is a county health director, she is urging hospitals to begin putting in place their plans to prepare for a surge. She stated "If the trajectory continues, the number of ICU beds - our most limited resource - is likely to become inadequate in the near future."
To prepare, the surge plans will include putting elective surgeries and other services on hold. Preparing non-traditional areas like operating rooms and waiting rooms to hold hospital beds and making sure that facilities will have extra supplies of personal equipment on hand.
