If you are recently awaiting your passport, it's going to take time before you get it.
A recent L.A. Times article stated that there is a backup in passport applications due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the U.S. State Department shut down all passport processing in March, the catch-up process is just starting now. According to the latest stats, they are backed up by 1.2 million applications as of July 22nd.
Usually, it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get a passport unless it's expedited and the State Department is warning that people should expect significant delays.
Do you travel a lot?!
