LAUSD Students Start New School Year With Distance Learning

LAUSD students have begun their school year from home as the pandemic is forcing classrooms to remain empty for the time being.

Students will now access online portals and attend orientation sessions today and Wednesday with the first day of actual online instruction starting on Thursday. LAUSD is providing devices and internet access to students in need and one-on-one tutoring will be provided to K-8 students outside of school hours.

Superintendent Austin Beutner said "We all wish students could be headed back to classrooms as a new school year officially starts. Unfortunately, it's not safe and appropriate at this time."

Teachers are able to work from home or in classrooms and the average day is expected to start at 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. As of right now, district officials are not sure when all students will be able to return to schools.
