Governor Gavin Newsom just announced that the state of California plans to hire about 1,400 extra seasonal firefighters ahead of what could possibly be a major fire season.
Newsom just approved $80 million in emergency funding that will allow California firefighters to hire 1,256 firefighters, another 119 personnel for helicopter crews and 24 personnel through the California National Guard to support fuel management efforts.
Fire season usually starts from May through October but in recent years, they have broken out between November and January.
