Taco Bell is bolstering its menu options with new birria-inspired tacos.
The Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco lands on menus nationwide for a limited time starting Thursday, Aug. 3, the California-based taco chain announced in a news release.
For $3.49, the saucy handheld comes with “slow-braised shredded beef ... with a three-cheese blend melted on the inside and grilled on the outside” of a fried corn tortilla, according to a product description.
The new taco is accompanied by two dipping sauces: warm nacho cheese and a zesty red sauce.
For those unfamiliar, birria is an authentic Mexican stewed meat — typically beef or goat — bathed in a medley of dried chiles and other spices.
“The rich and spicy flavors often found in birria were a major point of inspiration as we created the new Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco,” Liz Matthews, global chief food innovation officer for Taco Bell, said in a statement.
The tacos are the latest grilled cheese offering at Taco Bell and had a successful test run last year, according to Matthews.
“This Mexican-inspired dish represents an evolution of what fans typically expect from Taco Bell,” she said.
